The Red Ribbon Express (RRE) is a multi-sectoral project to spread awareness on HIV/AIDS and promote safe behavioral practices. It is a national campaign to mainstream the issue of HIV/AIDS through the train. The train is designed to cover 9000kms during this year with covering 180districts/halt station and holding programme & activities. About 43,200 villages are being covered in this programme. The target groups of general population with focus on youth groups, women SHGs, PRI members, adolescents students from school & colleges are brought to participate in it. The Red Ribbon Express train with seven coaches holding exhibition on various aspects of HIV/AIDS arrived at Sambalpur Railway station at the early hours on 10th April’08, stayed for two days. It was inaugurated by Sri Sanatan Bisi,Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Govt.of Orissa.Sri Brundaban Majhi,MLA,Laikaera,Sri RabiNarayan Naik,MLA,Kuchinda,Sri Sobharam Pradhan,President,Zilla Parishad,Sambalpur, Sri Madhu Sudan Padhi,RDC(NR),Sambalpur,Sri Pradipt Kumar Pattnaik,District Magistrate& Collector,Sambalpur,Sri Binaya Patel,DRM,Sambalpur, Director,NYKS, Director, OSACS Bhubaneswar, also graced the dias. To make the programme success BISWA played a vital role. Sri Shiv Prasad Meher, Manager, Public Relations, BISWA was made a member of the Sub-Committee, which was constituted for smooth conducting the programme. Besides that he was entrusted to document the whole programme. Sri Meher was assisted by Sri Muralidhar Sethy, Asst.Manager, Public Relations, Dr.Rajaram Sarangi and Sri Surya Narayan Mahapatra in coordinating the programme at the railway platform. BISWA arranged a gathering of 100 WSHG members with 16 SHG members for training in the train. It also coordinated the cycle rally from Sambalpur railway station to Ainthapali chowk as a part of awareness generation in the city. BISWA ambulance stood by the exhibition train to be used in case of any emergency. Invitation to all local NGOs was coordinated by BISWA on this occasion. BISWA hosted lunch and dinners for officials and volunteers.
