BISWA in collaboration with the district administration organized a special meeting on initiation of Child Line Project in the conference hall of the Collectorate Sambalpur on 23 July 2010 where Mr. Abesh Banerjee of Child Line India Foundation (CLIF), Kolkata narrated the objectives of the project.38 NGOs of the district including social workers participated in the meeting. At the outset, the outgoing District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Mrs. Matilda Dung welcomed the guests and the participants. In her address she appealed the NGO activists present to come to the rescue of the children in distress through child line India foundation that also provides monetary help to them after enlistment. The chief guest Mr. Banerjee, head of the Child Line India Foundation in his speech narrated in details about Child Line India Foundation (CLIF). "This foundation is working in five major cities in Orissa and government of India wants to extend it to four more districts," Mr. Banerjee informed. Out of the new four places, Sambalpur is also one destination, he added. This particular project is meant for the distressed children who need the help, protection and care. And its aim is to reach all the children in distress, Mr. Banerjee informed. A 12 member team with collector as the chairman and the DSWO as the convener would be formed for smooth functioning of the foundation. He also narrated the structure of the foundation in the district level with a supporting organisation and collaborating organisations below it. He narrated the criteria for selection of the supporting and the collaborating organisations. The supporting and collaborating organisation must be financially sound to bear the expanses at the initial level without waiting for the fund from CLIF, Mr. Banerjee informed. Since, CLIF deals with children in distress, the organisation must have promptness in redressing the problems of the victims with touch of sympathy, humanity and patience, Mr. Banerjee said. Members of the NGOs present also put fourth their valuable suggestions for success of such a novel project since many a children are now vulnerable to social hazards as well as unprecedented natural calamities. The new DSWO of Mr. Chandra Sekhar Dhada appreciated the proposal of Mr. Banerjee to set up child line foundation here and other districts of the state since the poor children deserve care from others. "CLIF can go long way in helping such children," he expressed hope. Mrs. Bani Mahapatra Deputy Manager (Programme) of Biswa and Mr. PK Patnaik PRO were present during the meeting.
