“BISWA believes that right to equal opportunity is the basic right of all human beings. Poor people neither have life choice nor better opportunity for their sustainability. So, BISWA has tried to ensure that a poor household has stable livelihood, will substantially increase its income over a period of time asset ownership, self-esteem and social participation. BISWA is doing commendable works in the social development sector and it plans are ahead of others. It is able to think today, what others do tomorrow and that is incredible for an NGO”. These were the wordings of Madam Pramila Malick, Hon’ble Minister for Woman & Child Development, Government of Odisha, while she was addressing to the gathering of the 16th Foundation Day of BISWA. She graced the dais as the chief guest of the occasion.
She fondly recollected her memories of old days at their native place Jajpur with her elder brother Mr K.C.Malick, now known as the Chairman of BISWA. She added that promoting sanitation is an integral component of BISWA’s social sector strategy. She had all praise for BISWA & its Chairman in her speech. The 16th Foundation day of BISWA was organised at its Waste Plastic Recycling Unit, Durgapali campus on January 7th, 2010, wherein almost all the staff members of the organisation alongwith the invited guests came for their participation. At the outset Mr. Shiv Prasad Meher, Manager- Public Relations, BISWA, invited the guests to the dais with his style of New Year greetings. The meeting was formally inaugurated by the chief guest & other prominent guests on the dais with lighting the lamp. A welcome song was sung by young artists of Paniniprajna Cultural Academy, Sambalpur. Mr.Malick, Chairman-BISWA greeted the guests and the audience in his welcome address. He tried to visit down the memory lane Mr. Malick pointed out that through relentless efforts from the entire team of BISWA, the organisation stands tall, working hand in hand with 5,50,570 families and 34,299 self help groups today. Its integrated approach has now emerged as one of the successful modules towards holistic social development by bringing a convergence of Micro Finance, Micro Enterprise, Micro Insurance, and Micro Marketing.

while describing how the organisation initially started long back 15 years ago at Baramunda in Dhankauda block as a humble beginning. Subsequently it spread into all the districts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh with other 14 states. He explained the various points related to BISWA like its formation, expansion, operation, its integrated approach, single window service system, its various projects and future plans etc.
Development programmes of BISWA address poverty eradication, livelihood promotion, basic health services, water and sanitation, education, social marketing, natural resources management, gender and equity, he explained. The Organisation is geared to address the burning problems of poverty and unemployment. He further added that we are helping the government plan directly and indirectly, as a result to it, our interventions have accelerated the development process of government.
